TransLite

2026

A minimal browser translation extension for full-page translation, bilingual reading, YouTube subtitles, and provider selection.

TransLite is a lightweight browser translation extension for full-page translation, bilingual reading, translation-only reading, and YouTube subtitle translation. Its product stance is quiet by default: when the user has not started translation, it avoids heavy page work.

The project is a heavily simplified rebuild based on read-frog, keeping the minimal core and preserving GPL-3.0-or-later attribution. Public wording says “majorly simplified and rebuilt from an open-source base” to keep the authorship boundary accurate.

The stack includes WXT, Manifest V3, React, TypeScript, Dexie, Zod, and provider configuration. Google / Microsoft translation work out of the box, while AI translation requires the user to bring an API key.

TransLite has been published to Chrome Web Store, but the current sources do not include a verifiable public listing URL. This page therefore links only to GitHub and does not show store adoption or performance benchmarks.
